Swiss receive Egypt request on Mubarak assets

Hosni Mubarak (Modern World Leaders)|Swiss receive Egypt request on Mubarak assets: "Switzerland has received a formal request from Cairo concerning the assets of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and “representatives of the former regime,” the justice ministry said.

“A rogatory commission has been transmitted to us,” said Folco Galli, spokesman of the Swiss Justice Ministry.

“It concerns the representatives of the former regime,” he added, without giving their names. Switzerland had taken pre-emptive action to freeze the assets of Mubarak and his entourage on February 11, barely two hours after the former president stepped down."

Volcano alert on Iceland

National Geographic - Volcano!Volcano alert on Iceland - World - IOL | Breaking News | South Africa News | World News | Sport | Business | Entertainment | IOL.co.za: "Another volcano could be about to erupt on Iceland, threatening to spew out a blanket of dust that would dwarf last year’s eruption and ground hundreds more passenger flights.

Geologists say there is a high risk of the island’s second-largest volcano Bárdarbunga erupting after an increase in the number of earthquakes around it.

Pall Einarsson, a professor of geophysics at the University of Iceland, says the increased activity provides “good reason to worry”. The sustained tremors to the north-east of the remote volcano range are the strongest recorded in recent times and there was “no doubt’ the lava was rising.

But he added that a low number of detection devices in the area make it difficult to predict exactly what will happen, and when."

Gary Moore tribute: Thin Lizzy boys are back in town

Live & DangerousGary Moore tribute: Thin Lizzy boys are back in town - Northern Ireland, Local & National - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk: "Reformed rock band Thin Lizzy are to pay an emotional tribute to their former colleague Gary Moore in Belfast next week when they play in the late guitarist’s home town.

Ironically the concert will be staged in a venue that Moore hated — the Waterfront on the banks of the River Lagan.

Moore (58), who was raised only a few miles from the Waterfront, died on Sunday after suffering a massive heart attack at the start of a holiday on the Costa del Sol.

Moore was a member of Thin Lizzy for three spells after teaming up with Dubliner Phil Lynott, who died 25 years ago.

Gary organised a memorial concert for Lynott in Dublin in 2005 but decided against joining ex-members of Thin Lizzy when they revived the group for a tour of the UK, which arrives in Belfast next Wednesday night"

The former advertising hoarding in the shape of a bull, 88 of which are perched high up on hills throughout the Spanish mainland, 'will cross the Strait of Gibraltar for the first time and be installed in north Africa,' the daily El Mundo said.
Authorities in the tiny autonomous enclave of Melilla decided on Monday to set up one of the 14-metre (50 feet) high bulls.
The silhouette will be 'easily visible' in the surrounding area, a spokesman for the local authority, which is controlled by Spain's conservative opposition Popular Party, told the ABC newspaper."

Rolls-Royce celebrates the Flying Lady's birthday with London procession - Autoblog UK

Rolls Royce Flag 3' X 5' BannerRolls-Royce celebrates the Flying Lady's birthday with London procession - Autoblog UK: "Many automotive anniversaries pass unnoticed, or at best get a press release and a series of pictures to mark the occasion.

But Rolls-Royce is different. This weekend saw a procession of 100 cars paraded through central London, and all in honour of the little mascot that sits proudly on the bonnet of its luxury cars.

The figurine, of a lady leaning forwards with her cloak billowing out behind her, was created by Charles Sykes in 1911.

The Spirit of Ecstacy, as the figure is called, was supposedly modelled on Eleanor Thornton, the secretary and mistress of Lord Montagu of Beaulieu."

Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy guitarist, found dead in hotel room in Spain

Around the Next DreamGary Moore, Thin Lizzy guitarist, found dead in hotel room in Spain: "Rock legend Gary Moore was found dead Sunday in a hotel room in Spain, where he had been vacationing. The Thin Lizzy guitarist was 58.

The rocker was found laying unconscious in the lavish Kempinski hotel on Spain's Costa del Sol by his girlfriend and later pronounced dead, according to several reports.

Considered one of the greatest blues-based rock guitarists of the '70s, an era that also boasted the likes of Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton, Moore joined Thin Lizzy in the mid-1970s and later enjoyed a successful solo career.

'I still can't believe it,' ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell told the Belfast News. 'He was so robust, he wasn't a rock casualty; he was a healthy guy. He was a superb player and a dedicated musician.'

Though an official cause of death had not been released, London's The Sun reported that Moore was a casualty of a rock 'n' roll lifestyle, having choked on his vomit after a drinking binge."

Jordan angers motorists as police slow down M25 for her: 3am

Jordan angers motorists as police slow down M25 for her: 3am: "We're not sure who's generally less popular, Jordan or the police, but both of them have narked off motorists and the British tax-payer ('motorists and the British tax-payer'? Who ARE we and what have we become?) this week.

Earlier this week, in order to protect Jordan from photographers, police set up a 'rolling roadblock' on the M25 and even apparently reduced the speed limit to 50mph to keep her safe. Seems a bit extreme - normally she just uses carrier bags.

Jordan was being driven through Surrey when she was given a police escort (AT TAX-PAYERS' EXPENSE!!!!! We really are trying to care), who slowed down traffic to a crawl to hold back the paps... and loads of people who were probably desperate to get home/get to work/do a wee.

'As a Surrey taxpayer, I am concerned that limited police resources are being abused in this manner,' says some exceedingly pissed off guy called Ian. 'If any of the press or other road users were driving above the speed limit, they should have been prosecuted. This looks like star-struck Surrey Police officers pandering to the ego of a minor celebrity."
